About the Role
This multifaceted position combines the roles of a Resource Entitlement Specialist and Client Advocate within NAC's Resources, Advocacy and Homelessness Prevention Program. The role involves maintaining knowledge of NYC resources and entitlements, advocating for clients in various settings, and building community relationships.
Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge of New York City's entitlement and resource programs, including HRA services, Medicaid, Social Security, Mental Health, Office of Vital Records, and camp placement.
- Meet with clients in the office and field to advocate as needed.
- Act as an advocate in Criminal, Housing, and Family courts.
- Build and maintain relationships with community funders, legal assistance groups, and advocacy organizations.
- Attend Policy meetings.
- Attend and participate in NAC Case Reviews.
- Assist staff in identifying community resources for basic needs like food and clothing.
Requirements
- Master Social Worker OR BA / BSW with experience in the field.
Skills
- General knowledge of City, State and Federal Entitlement and benefit programs (HRA, SNAP Benefits, SSI).
- General knowledge about NYC Housing Programs.
- Ability to recognize clinical issues.
- Strong ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of personnel.
- Respectful of case planning, care manager and clinical requesting staffs' knowledge.
- Detail-oriented, diligent and timely in client outreach and note-keeping.
- Competence with Excel spreadsheets.
