About the Role
The Shipping & Packaging Technician prepares finished tanks, process equipment, and components for safe and timely shipment. This role involves packaging, carpentry, material handling, and shipment preparation to protect equipment during transit and meet all requirements. The technician collaborates with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Project Management to support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), final inspections, shipment readiness, and outbound logistics.
Responsibilities
- Prepare finished tanks, vessels, and process equipment for shipment through cleaning, staging, labeling, packaging, and load preparation.
- Build custom skids, crates, blocking, bracing, and protective packaging to secure large industrial equipment during transportation.
- Install shrink wrap, padding, covers, and other protective materials to prevent damage during transit.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities and customer inspections.
- Complete final shipment inspections and verify customer punch list items.
- Assist with loading and securing equipment onto trailers.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, shipping instructions, customer specifications, and packaging requirements.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Project Management teams to resolve shipment preparation issues.
- Complete shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing lists, and ERP transactions accurately and timely.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, hoists, and other material handling equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe shipping, staging, and storage areas.
- Assist with inventory movement, material handling, and other shipping and receiving activities.
- Cross-train in additional warehouse, shipping, and supply chain functions.
- Follow all Feldmeier Equipment safety policies, quality standards, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to safely operate and use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic shop math calculations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, twist, stoop, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms as required.
- Ability to work inside, underneath, and around large vessels and process equipment.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and production conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work while maintaining attention to detail and safety standards.
