About the Role
Advocates is hiring a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support two men with developmental disabilities who share a home. This role provides in-home support to help them maintain as much independence as possible. The role involves spending time with individuals during the day and assisting them in working toward personal goals such as building social skills, developing independent living skills, and making healthy food and beverage choices.
Responsibilities
- Support individuals with developmental disabilities in their home.
- Assist individuals in maintaining independence.
- Help individuals work toward personal goals.
- Assist with building social skills.
- Assist with developing independent living skills.
- Assist with making healthy food and beverage choices.
- Electronically log time, mileage, and service documentation.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid email address.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.
- Must demonstrate sound decision-making skills.
- Must demonstrate understanding for the Agency mission.
- Must believe in the philosophy of person-centered services, self-advocacy, and the right and ability of people we serve to self-direct their supports and services.
- Must demonstrate patience and compassion.
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.
- Must have the ability to write correspondence.
- Must have basic reasoning skills including the ability to analyze and problem solve.
- Must be able to tolerate a moderate noise level in the work environment.
- Must be able to handle distractions.
- Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including sitting, standing, using hands to reach, walk, push, or lift up to 50 pounds.

Experience Level

- Applicable job experience preferred.
- Previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred.

Salary/Compensations
- $16.00 - $20.50 Hourly
- $20.50 per hour when providing direct support.
- $16 per hour for indirect/training.
