About the Role
Lightspeed is looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Capital Advances team. This squad builds and runs the machinery behind Lightspeed Capital, from the moment a merchant applies for an advance, through underwriting, to the advance being issued and repaid. The work blends complex operational workflows with high stakes merchant experiences, and there is real room to turn a slow, manual process into a fast and largely automated one. In this role, you'll help define a vision through iterative design and delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead project work from a design perspective with autonomy and authority, facilitating design reviews and working sessions to help the teams deliver the best possible solutions.
- Work with ambiguity and turn nebulous concepts into specific, useful, and delightful product features.
- Find design moves that support the vision of automating business operations with AI.
- Treat AI as part of how work gets done, not a side experiment, by synthesizing complex data, using agentic workflows for prototypes, and shaping prompts for production experiences.
- Design holistic systems, flows, and interfaces across internal tooling and merchant experiences, ensuring coherence.
- Draw insights from research and data to create tangible solutions.
- Learn the day-to-day of underwriting and servicing teams, and advocate for them when collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with product and engineering partners in a tight cross-functional trio.
- Design and craft artifacts to support and facilitate multi-functional alignment sessions on product and design solutions.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of practical, in-house product, UX/UI design experience.
- Ideally with experience in designing and supporting development for 0 to 1 product.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to bring internal stakeholders on the design journey and explain work with focus and brevity.
- Experience designing complex, workflow-heavy products, internal tools, admin consoles, case management, or operational systems.
- Comfort working in a domain with rules that cannot be changed, such as financial services, lending, risk, or payments.
- Demonstrable experience putting AI to work in your own design practice with concrete examples.
- A deep, holistic commitment to design quality, balancing 'Fit' and 'Craft', and validating the 'why' behind designs.
