About the Role

This role contributes to the oversight of mortgage-related fraud, AML, and reputational risk reviews across various channels within the Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) business in Canada. The Manager acts as a key resource for file reviews, identifying trends and risks, and providing guidance on escalations and remediation. The role strengthens RESL's lending practices through investigative capability, supporting a resilient and well-governed mortgage business.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a subject matter resource for mortgage fraud risk, investigative assessments, and reputational risk matters.
  • Leads and supports enhanced mortgage file reviews and targeted due diligence assessments where elevated risk concerns are identified.
  • Uses data-driven insights to identify files, individuals, channels, or patterns requiring further review.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight, coaching, and quality reviews promoting consistent investigative practices.
  • Provides AML, KYC, and Enhanced Due Diligence support for mortgage-focused reviews.
  • Develops clear, supportable recommendations for senior decision-making on remediation actions and escalations.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and communicates risk themes arising from file reviews and emerging fraud trends.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to synthesize investigative findings and inform follow-up actions.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Supports specialized mortgage investigations by providing day-to-day oversight of complex investigative matters.
  • Oversees deep-dive investigative work driven by analytics, risk indicators, and emerging fraud trends.
  • Acts as an escalation and advisory point for front-line, business, and customer-related matters where potential misconduct or risk is identified.
  • Supports internal and external stakeholder engagements by contributing clear, defensible information on investigative findings and remediation considerations.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., business, criminology, finance, law), complemented by specialized training or certifications in Fraud, AML, or financial crime investigation.
  • Practical experience in mortgage lending, fraud, AML, or financial crime risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage origination, underwriting, documentation, policy requirements, and common indicators of mortgage fraud or misrepresentation.
  • Demonstrated investigative or review experience, including the ability to assess file evidence, identify patterns, challenge conclusions, and determine appropriate escalation or remediation paths.
  • Working knowledge of RESL systems, processes, and controls, including MIMS or related mortgage adjudication and documentation platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize findings, explain risk implications, and influence business partners and control functions.
