About the Role
Daily Bread Food Bank is seeking a motivated, professional, and energetic AZ Driver to join their Operations team. This role is crucial for representing Daily Bread in a positive and professional manner while ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of food items to member agencies and pick-ups from donors. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to customer service, safety, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those facing hunger and poverty.
Responsibilities
- Drive company tractor-trailers with a focus on road safety and accident prevention.
- Deliver pallets of food to member agencies daily.
- Perform dock to dock deliveries and pick-ups, and tailgate deliveries.
- Pick up food donations from various locations including grocery stores, schools, firehalls, and industry warehouses.
- Load empty pallets, milk crates, and bread trays and return them to the Daily Bread warehouse.
- Maintain a high level of customer service during delivery or pickup duties, operating in a safety-focused, courteous, and professional manner.
- Promote and maintain good customer relations.
- Share customer/agency feedback with the Daily Bread team, including complaints, requests, returns, performance, and potential opportunities.
- Practice safe loading/unloading/lifting of product, considering weight restrictions and using lifting devices.
- Record all stops using handheld smartphone technology and complete all required paperwork.
- Perform daily tractor-trailer/equipment circle check safety inspections, including proper trailer coupling and air brake connections, documenting and reporting as required.
- Ensure driver's license is up to date and report all infractions, tickets, and accidents.
- Participate in special events both onsite and offsite (minimum of 2 per year).
- Perform Warehouse Support responsibilities when not engaged in primary duties.
- Assist with organizing the dock, cleaning trucks, and dump runs.
- Promote a safe and healthy workplace, ensuring adherence to legislation and policy.
- Participate in health and safety information sessions.
- Use or wear provided safety equipment, protective devices, or clothing.
- Meet the requirements of s. 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Work closely with the Operations team to ensure inbound and outbound order accuracy.
Requirements
- Valid AZ driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years of continuous AZ truck driving experience in Canada or North America.
- Clean driver's abstract.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with the GTA and surrounding area.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and move skids with a manual/electric pump truck.
- Willingness to occasionally work a flexible schedule.
- Must be able to use Smartphone for delivery application and email purposes.
- Must display offensive and defensive driving practices.
- Must be self-motivated with strong conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
- Open to feedback and takes pride in actioning feedback.
- Employees are required to stand, bend, stretch and lift.
- Potential requirement to go into drive-in fridge and freezer for short periods of time.
