About the Role

The Paley Center for Media is seeking a Museum Educator to schedule and teach inquiry-based classes for K-12 school groups, both in-person and virtually. This role also involves designing and running arts and crafts projects for families and supporting weekend programs like Re-creating Radio and Podcasting Workshops. This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a standard work week of Tuesday through Saturday, which may adjust as the role evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate media literacy experiences for K–12 students that build critical thinking, curiosity, and confidence.
  • Design and lead high-quality family and youth programs, including hands-on arts and crafts, that bring exhibits and special events to life.
  • Create memorable learning experiences through dynamic teaching, hands-on activities, and positive interactions.
  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where every child, caregiver, and teacher feels safe, respected, and empowered.
  • Serve as a Paley Ambassador by extending the organization’s reach and strengthening community connection through authentic engagement with Paley’s social media content and initiatives.
  • Maintain program materials and resources to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Contribute to special projects and organizational priorities that support the quality, reach, and impact of Paley’s educational and public programming.

  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Positive and professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal and administrative skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, and strong problem-solving and research skills.
  • 2+ years of experience creating meaningful learning experiences for elementary and secondary students in a classroom, museum, cultural institution, or teaching-artist setting.
  • Experience engaging family audiences and creating welcoming, participatory experiences for children and caregivers.
  • Strong understanding of media literacy and experience using approaches such as object-based teaching and visual thinking strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver developmentally appropriate curricula and programs.
  • Strong planning, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Creative, adaptable problem-solver who can respond thoughtfully to the needs of different learners, audiences, and program environments.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for broadcast history, media, popular culture, and their role in shaping understanding and connection.
