About the Role

This is a key role within the WPP Media UK Commercial Compliance team, reporting to the Commercial Compliance VP. The objective is to partner with senior stakeholders to ensure the agency complies with all contractual commitments while fostering a growth mindset. This includes accurate and timely management of client charging mechanisms and notifications, focusing on commercial growth and profitability, and ensuring robust systems and controls to eliminate revenue loss risk.

Responsibilities

  • Co-manage the agency client audit program, focusing on a portfolio of key clients.
  • Coordinate markets and auditors for client audits.
  • Negotiate audit scopes, NDAs, and MRLs.
  • Conduct audit briefings.
  • Maintain the annual agency client certification program.
  • Negotiate post-audit settlements and makegoods.
  • Implement post-audit remedial plans.
  • Track audit results and correct noncompliance issues.
  • Liaise with third-party audit firms, ensuring timely and correct information supply.
  • Manage all client notifications and declarations.
  • Apply correct interpretation of WPP’s contractual commitments and reporting, including liaison with affiliate entities.
  • Act as a link between the commercial team and finance to ensure correct application of commercial terms in charging methodology.
  • Support the Commercial Compliance VP in ensuring new commercial models are compliant and have adequate governance.
  • Provide ad hoc commercial analysis for the Commercial Compliance VP.
  • Maintain the compliance schedule with UK, EMEA, and Global commercial teams, ensuring updates and immediate communication of changes to relevant account teams.
  • Review existing control processes and suggest improvements.
  • Onboard new clients/contracts with the Commercial Team, communicating key commercial compliance and operational terms, assessing commercial risk, and implementing countermeasures.
  • Partner in the development and deployment of training and best practice programs for commercial contractual knowledge.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date agency commercial guidance documentation and systems.
  • Communicate new financial and commercial group policies to the agency and ensure implementation.
  • Engage in agency commercial/contractual projects.
  • Manage a small team of supervisors, professionals, and/or analysts, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and development opportunities to the team.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant/auditor or legal qualification.
  • Industry Commercial / Compliance / Financial experience.
  • Knowledge of core agency concepts (agency benefits, disclosed buying models, undisclosed inventory, vendor contracts & remuneration models).
  • Capacity for multi-tasking and meeting multiple simultaneous deadlines.
  • High levels of gravitas with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate well, build trust, and engender strong relationships.
  • Commercially astute: capable of unravelling and interpreting commercial contracts.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and negotiate commercial situations/contracts to the agency's benefit.
  • Demonstrates good commercial logic and reasoning.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Logical, concise, and proficient at breaking down challenges and developing solutions.
  • Forward-thinking and a detailed planner.
  • Natural attention to detail and ability to digest information from various sources.
  • Open-minded, adept at developing/assessing options and solutions, and adopting a helicopter view when needed.
  • Extensive experience of Financial/audit best practice.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in commercial management, understanding its impact on other organizational areas.
  • Strong experience in managing client compliance audit negotiations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a team, providing clear instruction and constructive feedback.
  • Proactive approach, logical and analytical thought process, good attention to detail, and high accuracy in output.
  • Strong negotiation skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight timelines.
  • Highly proficient with Excel (Advanced excel skills).
