About the Role
As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the primary function of the Mental Health & Addiction Counsellor II will be to provide individual and group therapy, psychoeducational material, and ongoing assessment of progress to clients. Case coordination and communication across an inter-professional team is an integral component of the role. Additionally, the Mental Health and Addiction Counsellor is responsible for communicating with referral agencies, offering support and guidance to clients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Manages clients with various substance use disorders and concurrent issues using a trauma-informed approach.
- Works therapeutically with diverse client population through individual and group therapy, process groups, individual and family therapy and assessment.
- Delivers psychoeducational sessions to clients, public audiences, and external groups.
- Identifies treatment issues and goals with clients, coordinating across broader clinical teams.
- Collaborates in the development, implementation, and follow-up of the client care plan and discharge plans.
- Completes detailed documentation and charting appropriately.
- Prepares reports or correspondence in a timely manner.
- Manages client caseload.
- Participates in regular and consultation meetings, making recommendations based on client progress.
- Liaises with referral sources such as aftercare providers, EAP representatives, parole and probation officers.
- Engages in personal professional development and maintains appropriate professional associations.
- Acts as a resource person for practicum students and other professionals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in counselling-psychology, social work, or related field.
- Minimum three-five years of clinical experience.
- Professional experience with individuals experiencing concurrent disorders, such as mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, acute stress disorders, and PTSD.
- Current registration with a regulated professional College (i.e., college of Social Workers, Canadian Certified Counsellor, etc.).
- Knowledge of the DSM-V, including substance use disorders.
