About the Role
The Program Assistant is an integral staff member providing administrative, fiscal, and billing support to the Pretrial Services Department. This role ensures the team's smooth and effective functioning by working closely with the Borough Director and additional program staff. We are looking for someone committed to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals involved in the criminal justice system, with excellent organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to prioritize tasks.
Responsibilities
- Monthly order and delegation of phones, including maintaining the relationship with the phone vendor.
- Receive and screen telephone calls and answer program inquiries via phone, email, and mail.
- Provide triage support and direct assistance to program participants as needed.
- Assist with the scheduled system of appointment reminders to ensure participants receive timely notification of upcoming supervision contacts and court appearances.
- Perform data entry to enroll participants in Supervised Release, including legal and demographic information, and enter appointment attendance and other program information into the database, ensuring accuracy.
- Enter participant data into the database, including pretrial supervision track, compliance with supervision appointments, re-arrest information, and case outcome.
- Complete and prepare for submission compliance documentation for the District Attorney’s Alternative Sentencing Office, judges, and the Criminal and Supreme Court Compliance and All-Purpose Parts.
- Complete any other tasks as required by the Program Director and supervisory staff.
Requirements
- Associate degree or High School Diploma/HSE with 2-3 years' experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Respect for confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Highly proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications (MS Word, Excel), experience with PowerPoint.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
- Must be able to lift 5-10 lbs.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods.

About the Company
- CASES' Supervised Release Program (SRP) annually diverts 7,500 people otherwise facing pretrial detention at Rikers Island to community-based supervision and support services. Program participants include youth and young adults, people with substance use disorders and mental illnesses, and individuals who are homeless. SRP participants have not been found guilty of a crime and are not mandated to engage in treatment or other services. This requires staff to tactfully deliver approaches to help participants tap into their intrinsic motivation to leverage their strengths and skills for meaningful life improvements while fulfilling all court requirements.
