About the Role
This role involves shooting and editing video and audio for news broadcasts, specials, and online platforms under tight deadlines. You will work collaboratively with reporters and other newsroom staff to tell compelling stories through visuals and sound, while also operating ENG trucks and ensuring equipment is in good working order.
Responsibilities
- Shoot steady, sequenced video with clean audio for news, weather, and sports.
- Gather natural sound and ensure all video is well-lit.
- Edit video and audio for news stories using Adobe Premier Pro CS6 and CC.
- Conduct interviews for broadcast, potentially using supplied questions.
- Collaborate with reporters to tell stories.
- Operate ENG trucks safely and independently.
- Navigate streets and highways efficiently and safely.
- Learn and operate new technology and equipment, including specific camera models.
- Communicate and collaborate with newsroom staff, including reporters, producers, and assignment desk.
- Respond to crisis situations and breaking news effectively.
- Attend editorial meetings and contribute story ideas.
- Maintain knowledge of local, national, and world events.
- Work assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnights.
- Drive company vehicles safely and report any issues.
- Build working relationships with colleagues, customers, vendors, and the public.
- Represent the station and News Department professionally.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of TV news photography and editing experience preferred.
- Proficient with current broadcast cameras and editing equipment.
- Knowledge and proficiency in non-linear editing.
- Ability to work alone and with a reporter.
- Must be reliable and able to work additional hours and travel as required.
- Ability to work different shifts, including overnights, weekends, evenings, early mornings, days, and holidays.
- Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of relocation.
- Must have a safe driving history.
- Good news judgment and thorough understanding of daily news content.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to learn and operate ENG trucks.
- Must be able to work in noisy environments with distractions and extreme weather.
- Must possess manual dexterity to operate camera and editing equipment.
- Must be able to move quickly inside and outside on uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to drive news vehicles.
- Must be able to stand for long periods.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions, with reasonable accommodations provided.
