About the Role
The Public Relations department is crucial for shaping and representing the Museum's brand identity and external communications. This role supports the department's mission and vision by executing a communications strategy for media, the public, and local communities to advance the Museum's profile, programs, and impact, including increasing attendance. The Manager of Public Relations and Communications collaborates with publicists, marketers, digital content creators, and visitor engagement professionals, interacting with various departments across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Conceive and manage communications initiatives and develop strategies to promote exhibitions, events, and public programs
- Solicit media attention (print, broadcast, online) for multiple projects
- Collaborate on projects with other Museum departments and external stakeholders
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with domestic and international media covering arts and lifestyle news
- Write, edit, and promote all media materials, including press releases, media alerts, briefing documents, and printed promotional materials
- Respond to and track all media requests for information and images
- Organize exhibition, public program, and event images in the Museum's online press room for media use
- Support and maintain the media contacts database, and research and meet with new contacts
- Organize and manage press events, including press conferences and openings
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree minimum, with a degree in English, Art History, or communications strongly preferred
- Three to five years of work experience in museums, art galleries, cultural organizations, public relations firms, or related fields
- Strong multichannel strategic communications skills and media contacts
- Experience managing complex long- and short-term projects within budget
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects with differing deadlines
- Strong computer skills working in various platforms
- Knowledge of image management
