About the Role
St. Michael’s Prep is seeking a school nurse to serve as the health and wellness expert for approximately 1000 students across PreK-12th grade. This full-time, 10-month exempt position involves providing quality nursing care, managing student health records, and promoting health and wellness within the school community.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality nursing care to ill or injured students or faculty/staff during the school day
- Provide health information and in-service programs on health topics to students, parents, and faculty
- Manage school health records in accordance with the State of Texas and Diocese of Austin requirements
- Maintain accurate medical records for compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions
- Initiate contact with and act as a liaison between home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector
- Maintain electronic health records within the school website system
- Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, staff, and school families to meet health and safety needs
- Aid in the development and maintenance of school health policies
- Coordinate student health curriculum with the physical education department
- Multitask and manage the simultaneous needs of diabetic students and medication or first aid administration
- Provide medical oversight and first aid care during occasional off-campus retreats and after-school programs
Requirements
- Experience with diabetic children and their daily health care needs
- Experience with managing other unique school-age medical conditions
- Experience with managing a peanut “aware” environment
- Knowledge of children's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development
- Excellent communication, outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal skills with children and adults
- Care, good judgment, and confidentiality in working with students and parents
- Strong organizational skills
- Completion of an online application for employment

Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure-Current in the State of Texas
- Current First Aid certification
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
- Cloud based electronic student health record and compliance software experience
