About the Role
Mulligan Funding is modernizing small business lending with AI. We are seeking an AI Product Director to partner with the Chief Credit Officer, co-design product blueprints, translate strategy into technical specifications, lead delivery teams, and manage external partners. This role offers high executive visibility and is structured to grow in scope.
Responsibilities
- Co-author product and engineering blueprints for new AI initiatives.
- Ensure AI design briefs account for financial regulations and model explainability.
- Map current processes and reimagine them through AI workflows.
- Serve as the day-to-day product authority across active initiatives.
- Lead interdisciplinary teams comprising Data Science, Data Engineering, IT, and business partners.
- Build, coach, and manage a team of Junior AI PMs.
- Act as the primary product interface for external specialist engineering vendors.
- Evaluate architecture proposals and technical deliverables from vendors.
- Enforce partnership mandate: Mulligan authors the specification; partners do not operate as unmonitored black boxes.
- Establish rigorous acceptance metrics and output tests for vendor milestone sign-off.
- Define Quality Control (QC) frameworks, including human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Collaborate with Data Science leads to establish baseline evaluation rubrics and golden datasets.
- Build trust across Sales, Credit, Operations, and Finance for high end-user adoption.
- Communicate programme metrics, delivery risks, and strategic trade-offs to executive management.
Requirements
- 8–12 years in product management with a track record of deploying AI-enabled solutions.
- Prior experience contributing to the design of AI solutions.
- Strong executive presence and ability to lead cross-functional meetings.
- Prior experience in fintech, lending, or a credit-adjacent product environment is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to extract process intelligence and translate it into AI transformation design briefs.
- Experience managing specialist external engineering partners through a full build cycle.
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple concurrent AI initiatives simultaneously.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related technical discipline.
- Master's degree is a plus, evaluated secondary to a strong track record of shipping production AI products in fintech.
Skills
- Practitioner-Level AI Fluency: Deep familiarity with modern LLM architecture, agentic orchestration patterns, confidence-based decision routing, hallucination mitigation techniques, and golden dataset benchmarking.
- Compliance & Model Governance: Working knowledge of credit regulations (FCRA, ECOA, Reg B), auditability requirements, and model governance in regulated industries.
- Process Discovery & Intelligence Extraction: Exceptional ability to interview domain experts, uncover undocumented edge cases, and translate current state intelligence into AI transformation design briefs.
- Cross-Functional Communication & Executive Presence: Ability to lead rooms of functional heads, engineers, and data scientists with confidence and authority.
- Ability to manage resistance to change from end-user communities.
- Ability to maintain executive confidence through honest, structured communication of programme health, risks, and trade-offs.
