About the Role
We are seeking an individual to own our AWS infrastructure, databases, deployments, and job pipelines. This role requires someone who can write the playbook for production ownership, set technical standards, and act as the escalation point for critical issues. You will report directly to the CTO and have end-to-end ownership of uptime, performance, and security.
Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction for infrastructure architecture, including build-vs-buy and vendor decisions.
- Establish and own on-call practices, SLOs/SLIs, and an incident postmortem culture.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure on Vercel and AWS.
- Design, provision, and manage AWS infrastructure, setting best practices for other engineers.
- Own Supabase/Postgres infrastructure, including performance tuning, backups, migrations, and scaling.
- Build and maintain background job and workflow infrastructure on Trigger.dev.
- Implement comprehensive observability: logging, monitoring, alerting, and tracing.
- Harden security practices across the stack, including secrets management, access control, and compliance readiness.
- Write and ship application code when a product fix is more appropriate than an infrastructure one.
- Mentor engineers on production best practices and lay the groundwork for a scalable platform function.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience running production infrastructure at scale (SRE, platform engineer, or DevOps).
- Proven track record of designing infrastructure architecture from the ground up.
- Experience as the senior-most infrastructure voice at a scaling startup, setting standards and making architecture decisions.
- Experience owning Postgres in production at scale.
- Genuine software engineering ability, including reading, writing, and debugging application code.
- History of establishing incident response practices and SLOs/SLIs where none existed.
- Bias toward automating repetitive tasks.
- Experience with Vercel or Supabase is a plus.
- Experience with Trigger.dev or similar workflow/queue orchestration tools is a plus.
- Experience as the founding or senior-most infrastructure hire at an early-stage startup is a plus.
- Experience mentoring other engineers or building out an infra/platform function is a plus.
- Experience in financial services or another regulated, security-sensitive industry is a plus.
- Exposure to compliance frameworks like SOC 2 is a plus.
