About the Role
Leads and directs a team of 15-25 software engineers in developing complex engineering solutions, providing technical guidance, and managing staffing levels to meet business objectives. Contributes directly to program performance through expertise in software solution architecture, design, implementation, test, integration, and sustainment. Manages budgets and provides technical oversight to other departments.
Responsibilities
- Lead an embedded software team to meet customer requirements within allocated cost/scope/schedule commitments.
- Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews.
- Collaborate with other engineers to develop reliable solutions.
- Observe Agile software development and engineering processes.
- Provide software support for units under test to on-orbit assets.
- Communicate with leadership on status, issues, milestones, and successes.
- Contribute to requirements analysis, design, code and unit test, integration and test, and requirements sell-off.
- Lead root cause corrective action investigations.
- Provide independent review team perspectives.
- Participate in non-advocate reviews.
- Manage and/or develop budgets for assigned function or department.
- Provide technical oversight and assistance to other departments as required.
- Make significant improvements in processes, systems, or products.
- Manage the implementation of the Software technical strategy.
- Establish short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function/area results.
- Meet functional requirements of staffing, training, talent development, engagement, retention and overall management of the department.
- Act as an advisor to subordinate staff members to meet schedules, resolve technical or operational problems.
- Exert influence in the development of overall objectives and short-term operational plans of the organization.
- Work with Business Development, Program Management, and Business Leadership to provide input for Strategic Planning, Research and Development Planning, and Inter-Corporation Resource Sharing.
- Stay abreast of state-of-the-art technology.
- Identify disruptive or emerging technology trends for inclusion in Internal Research and Development or pursuit/program engineering change proposal opportunities.
- Enable teams to resolve issues across programs.
- Drive innovative solutions.
- Solve execution and technical challenges on time and within budget.
Requirements
- Must possess extensive knowledge of Software Engineering and associated principles of Software Development and Software Test.
- Requires ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.
- Ability to acquire Secret Clearance.
- US Citizenship required for DOD Secret Clearance.
