About the Role
Responsible for the systematic inspection, evaluation, and analysis of production and customer-returned product to identify failure modes and determine root causes. Supports continuous improvement initiatives by generating accurate, data-driven findings that inform a multifunctional team consisting of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.
Responsibilities
- Interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, bills of material, electrical schematics, material specifications, workmanship standards, and acceptance criteria.
- Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections on production and customer returned units to assess the nature and extent of defects or failures.
- Understand proper technique for operating calipers, micrometers, height gages, and other precision hand tools to obtain accurate dimensional measurements.
- Familiar with CMM operation and principles, including how probing strategy and part setup affect measurement accuracy.
- Identify recurring issues and escalate complex failures to Product Quality Manager.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Procurement teams to communicate findings and support the development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist Technical Returns Evaluation Manager with development or revision of repair procedures and work instructions.
- Participate in Lean or continuous improvement initiatives to reduce turnaround time and defects.
- Perform Internal Quality Systems Audits.
- Ensure compliance with Department procedures.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a quality, manufacturing, or product inspection role.
- Prior experience in root cause analysis methodologies strongly preferred.
- Able to lift up to 40lbs.
- Ability to use hand tools.
Skills
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM).
- Working knowledge of ERP systems for logging and tracking (experience with Epicor or similar a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and product specifications.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, 13485, or equivalent.

Education Level
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline focused on quality.
