About the Role
This role focuses on executing complex engineering assignments related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) qualification and certification, including EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics. You will drive the resolution of electromagnetic issues, define project scopes, analyze designs, and ensure compliance with certification regulations.
Responsibilities
- Execute complex engineering assignments related to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics using similarity assessments, simulation, and analytical methods.
- Drive the resolution of electromagnetic related issues to support EMC certification and sustaining activities.
- Define scope of work and EMC effort for engineering projects, plan activities/milestones, highlight technical risks, and complete tasks.
- Analyze new and/or modified system or structure designs to assess technical engineering impacts and propose EMC compliance approaches.
- Review associated engineering documentation such as test procedures, test reports and analysis reports.
- Verify compliance with certification regulations and recommend for approval.
- Provide guidance to junior team members and interns.
- Support creation and updating of technical requirements for EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics.
- Represent the EMC team at multidisciplinary meetings.
- Engage with internal and external suppliers, partners, clients, and aircraft OEMs.
- Support improvements to Bombardier processes and best practices.
- Support and witness EMC tests in Canada, the United States, Europe or elsewhere as needed.
- Prepare/review aircraft level EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatic Discharge test procedures, oversee testing, and generate test reports.
- Prepare Certification Design Compliance Reports.
Requirements
- Eight (8) years minimum working experience with systems or structures EMC qualification/certification in the aerospace industry.
- Experience with fuel tank ignition prevention is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards (RTCA/DO-160, SAE ARPs).
- High-level familiarity with airworthiness (TCCA, FAA, EASA) Regulations and Advisory Materials pertaining to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics.
- Experience participating in major project and design reviews.
- Ability to identify technical, schedule and budget risks related to EMC.
- Experience working with an aircraft OEM and/or aerospace supplier supporting EMC qualification, certification, and compliance activities is preferred.
- Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools is an asset.
- Preferably participated in a minimum of one (1) green civil aircraft development program.
- Good knowledge of the aviation business.
