About the Role
Mott MacDonald Canada is seeking an Intermediate Civil Designer to support a range of infrastructure assignments for public and private-sector clients. Based in Toronto, you will collaborate with clients across Canada and the US, and on global projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare general arrangement and detailed design drawings for roadways, rail, grading, drainage, utilities, and land development projects.
- Develop and refine Civil 3D models and produce high-quality 2D drawings and plans.
- Perform basic design calculations to support engineering solutions.
- Apply rigorous quality control procedures, including self-checking and coordination reviews, and manage the issuance of deliverables.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment and consistency across design packages.
- Communicate effectively and professionally in both written and verbal interactions.
- Utilize BIM and digital collaboration tools for efficient information management and project delivery.
- Support and mentor team members in the use of technical software, collaboration tools, and coordinated design workflows.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or Engineering CAD/BIM Technology.
- ASET registration as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist (or eligibility to obtain).
- 5–10 years of experience supporting linear infrastructure and/or site development projects.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design software, including Autodesk (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and/or Bentley (OpenRoads, OpenRail).
- Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to proactively identify project needs and resolve technical challenges.
- Demonstrated interest in digital delivery and continuous learning, with a willingness to adopt new tools and workflows.
- Solid understanding of drafting standards, techniques, and engineering practices, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Confident and positive attitude.
- Ability to build and harbor good working relationships with business partners, suppliers, contractors, and clients.
- Ability to conduct work independently.
- Flexibility to travel if required within North America.
