About the Role
Optical Network Development Engineers build, deploy, and scale Amazon networks supporting AWS, customers, and other business units across global datacenters. This role is crucial for the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement network changes.
- Collaborate with automation teams to define tools for scaling.
- Lead network projects in sustaining engineering, deployment, scaling, technology refresh, best practices, and optimization.
- Sustain Amazon Web Services’ next-generation networks by providing critical network support to diagnose, mitigate, and resolve large-scale networking events.
- Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configuration issues.
- Drive and support innovation from Top of Rack to the Network Border.
- Partner with the broader Network/Infrastructure organization on engineering, standards, and tools.
- Work with Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams for smooth roll-out of new designs and products.
- Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure compliance.
- Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Collaborate with highest-tier escalation engineers.
- Create and review documentation and processes regarding network implementation, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
- 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment.
- 4+ years of experience with optical planning and modeling tools.
- 4+ years of experience with optical network design and troubleshooting.
- 1+ years of professional development experience with Python or a similar tool for network automation scripting.
- Experience in Unix.
- Experience scripting in one or more languages (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby).
- 4+ years of network engineering and deployments for large-scale networks in a corporate environment, including hands-on physical infrastructure installations, hardware integration, racking, and cabling experience.
- Experience with IP networking fundamentals and TCP/IP, UDP, DNS & DHCP.
- Expert network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of L2 and L3 routing.
- A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.
