About the Role

Assist Lead Teacher in planning and supervising services for a classroom of eight children using the identified curriculum and best practices in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, Department of Health (Article 47), and other relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in accordance with EHS and DOHMH regulations.
  • Assist and support staff in planning and implementing programming for children's development.
  • Work cooperatively with the classroom team to ensure children's goals are met.
  • Assist with maintaining developmentally appropriate equipment and materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information.
  • Notify the Lead Teacher of any concerns regarding child health and behavior.
  • Consult with the teacher before communicating information about individual children to parents.
  • Assist with recordkeeping and curriculum planning for individual children and the group.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, case conferences, and parent meetings.
  • Develop and maintain positive working partnerships with parents.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to communicate child development information to parents.
  • Assist with standardized developmental and behavioral screenings and follow-up.
  • Work with specialists and parents to support children with diagnosed special needs.
  • Conduct home visits at least twice a year.
  • Conduct individual parent/teacher conferences at least three times per year.
  • Follow applicable state regulations and agency policies regarding child maltreatment.
  • Participate in coaching opportunities and professional development training.
  • Participate in annual performance evaluations.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and reflective supervision sessions.
  • Lift 35 pounds easily and regularly.
  • Practice positive teacher-child relationships.
  • Perform special projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and Infant and Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential.
  • Trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development.
  • Study plan leading to an associate’s degree in early childhood education within seven years.
  • Experience working with families and children aged newborn to three and their families.
  • Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social or cultural needs.
  • Ability to maintain written records and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide leadership.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds easily and regularly.
  • Successfully clear NYS DOI Fingerprint Screening.
  • Successfully clear NYS Central Registry Clearance.
  • Successfully clear Sex Offender Registry Clearance.
  • Successfully clear three (3) reference checks.
  • Successfully clear physical examination with updated TB test, Tdap, MMR, varicella.
  • Meet all employee health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start performance standards.
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive infectious diseases certificate within the first year of employment.
  • Submit a resume and thoughtful cover letter.
  • Provide three (3) professional references upon selection (at least one from a former supervisor).

Skills

  • Bilingual English/ Chinese or Spanish strongly preferred
  • Mandated Reporter training certificate (every 2 years)
  • First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Preventive infectious diseases certificate

  • $33,440.45 - $38,693.21
