About the Role

The Community Safety Ambassador Program aims to create safer and cleaner environments by engaging with individuals in need, de-escalating incidents, and connecting them to city services. This role supports San Francisco's 'Breaking the Cycle' initiative, focusing on homelessness and behavioral health crises.

Responsibilities

Deploy with a team to provide services as requested by the City.
Take direction from Supervisor to provide support to the target population.
Engage with community members and serve as a community connector by providing resource information and service connections.
Provide de-escalation and stabilization interventions.
Offer aid for a range of community needs including overdose reversals, contacting local City agencies for support, providing wayfinding assistance, and directing community members to available services.
Assist with clean-up of debris and trash to maintain a safe community, including litter cleanup and needle pickup and disposal.
Contact appropriate City or partner resources for more significant sanitation needs.
Assist in the transportation of vulnerable individuals when feasible and appropriate.
Establish positive relationships with clients, staff, and other providers in the community.
Foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimize service duplication and maximize service delivery by coordinating outreach efforts and care with Neighborhood Street Team, lead agencies, and other service providers.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation according to program requirements.
Complete in-person and virtual trainings on time and attend all mandatory meetings.
Comply with uniform policy while in the field.
Use assigned communication devices to appropriately and professionally communicate with team members and other service providers.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

At least one year of job-related experience conducting street outreach to PEH.
Previous lived experience in homelessness, substance abuse, or criminal justice involvement is preferred.
Ability to work well with diverse staff and clientele, considering cultural, language, sexual identity, gender, and other diversity considerations.
Must possess a valid California Driver License.
Driver must be 21+ with no more than two 2-point convictions, or more than two moving violations, or more than one moving violation and one at-fault or passenger handling accident in the past 3 years.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must be in good physical condition and capable of performing job duties requiring frequent use of the entire body, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, sitting, and driving for extended periods.
Ability to use a computer, phone, or office equipment for extended periods.
Ability to successfully and efficiently complete tasks in an environment with background noise and constant interruptions.
Ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
With instruction, ability to assist persons with disabilities and to help transfer a 180 lb person and lift a wheelchair in and out of a car or van.
