About the Role
The Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for the clinical practice of medicine within the designated specialty, working in collaboration with a supervising physician. The PA will independently and collaboratively function as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), evaluating and managing medical complaints and conditions, and determining the need for diagnostic tests and procedures. This role supports the clinical, educational, and academic mission of the institution, potentially including teaching and mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for direct patient care and coordination within specialty areas.
- Evaluates patients by obtaining health histories and performing physical examinations.
- Orders labs, imaging, diagnostic testing, and consultations, and interprets results to develop a patient care plan.
- Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions following accepted standards of care.
- Documents patient encounters in medical records according to best practices.
- Counsels and educates patients and caregivers on disease management, prevention, and health promotion.
- Confers with specialists, physicians, and other healthcare providers to promote continuity of care.
- Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as determined by the delineation of privileges.
- Educates and counsels patients as per specialty practice standards.
- Performs related duties as determined by patient or practice needs and as required by delineation of privileges.
- Obtain informed consent, as indicated.
Requirements
- Graduate from ARC-PA accredited program
- Approximately 2 years of work experience in clinical setting highly desired.
- Up to one year of post-degree course work and/or an internship and less than one year of previous experience may be considered.
- New grads may be considered.
- Prior experience with coordinating clinical protocols desired.
- Prior experience or interest in clinical teaching, precepting, or academic program involvement in an advanced practice provider training program is preferred.
- Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration
- Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc (NCCPA)
- BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS or PALS (if applicable)
