About the Role
This is a high-autonomy role where you will own critical systems across the enterprise lifecycle (multi-tenancy, auth, auditability) and the developer ecosystem (public APIs, SDKs, MCPs, and bring-your-own integrations). You will build secure tenant isolation, authentication, authorization, and audit across customer organizations, and develop services for tenant provisioning, self-serve administration, and customer onboarding. You will also own and evolve Lila's public APIs and build integration paths for MCPs, agents, and data.
Responsibilities
- Build secure tenant isolation, authentication, authorization, and audit across customer organizations.
- Implement access boundaries and isolation guarantees for enterprise and regulated deployments.
- Build resilient backend services in Python/FastAPI.
- Own schema design for multi-tenant data, tenant-aware query patterns, and operational correctness in a regulated environment.
- Build services for tenant provisioning, self-serve administration, and customer onboarding.
- Support billing, pricing, and metering surfaces for enterprise customers.
- Own and evolve Lila's public APIs (REST, streaming, async).
- Ship SDKs and define tool/function interfaces agents call.
- Build integration paths for MCPs, agents, and data into the platform.
- Support customers bringing their own MCPs, agents, and data, ensuring integrations are scoped, isolated, and trusted within a tenant.
- Ship working code regularly.
- Debug production issues.
- Own systems end-to-end.
- Work well across teams including infra, data, apps, and science.
- Communicate tradeoffs clearly.
- Make decisions under ambiguity.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend software engineering experience.
- Meaningful experience in APIs, backend services, or platform infrastructure.
- Strong expertise in API design and versioning.
- Strong expertise in multi-tenancy.
- Strong expertise in authentication/authorization.
- Strong expertise in backend services at scale.
- Solid in Python (FastAPI).
- Solid in Kubernetes.
- Solid in AWS.
- Solid in databases (SQL or document).
- Care about developer experience.
- Write clear errors.
- Think about backward compatibility.
- Work well across teams.
- Build for internal scientists (physical and life sciences) as directly as for external developers.
