About the Role

The Certified Nurse Midwife functions within an organized system for the delivery of healthcare as a member of an interprofessional team, providing nurse-midwifery care in the Obstetrics, Midwifery, & Gynecology Clinic, Family Birth Center, and postpartum unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide antepartum care (both 1:1 and Centering Pregnancy) in collaboration with Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program team members and social service agencies.
• Provide intrapartum care and Birth Center triage.
• Provide postpartum care (inpatient and outpatient).
• Provide family planning services.
• Furnish medication.
• Provide clinical education of nurse-midwifery students, medical students, and residents.
• Document care via electronic medical record.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.
• Possession of a valid California Nurse-Midwife license.
• Possession of certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
• Possession of a valid Nurse-Midwife Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
• Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date.
• One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours.

Skills

• Knowledge of medications and their appropriate use during antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and family planning phases of care.
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for assessing and managing the health of the pregnant/birthing person, risk factors, and potential complications.
• Knowledge of signs, symptoms, and potential effects or conditions that present risk to the pregnant person and/or their baby.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their support people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to order and/or perform and interpret common laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging tests.
• Ability to perform a complete and accurate physical exam and standard medical procedures required for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and family planning.
• Spanish language skill proficient to provide midwifery care.
