About the Role
Responsible for preparing the sterile field for surgical operations, assisting surgeons, and directly supporting the surgical team during operations. Supports department functionality through supply distribution and equipment maintenance. Adheres to regulations and policies to ensure patient safety and optimal care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the sterile field for surgical operations.
- Set up sterile instruments.
- Assist surgeons in gowning and gloving.
- Drape patients for surgery.
- Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during operations.
- Hold retractors during surgery.
- Anticipate surgeons' needs during surgery.
- Distribute supplies.
- Perform equipment maintenance, testing, and setup.
- Adhere to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures.
- May be responsible for performing specific procedures.
- May help orient other staff to the department.
Requirements
- HS Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or has certification that evidences education.
- Military training as a scrub tech.
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
- Surgical Technician Certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST) is required to be eligible for incentive (if allowed per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for union represented employees).
- 1 year of recent relevant experience.

- General knowledge of surgical tools, procedures, views, and equipment.
- Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize assignments.
- Ability to work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods.
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Ability to identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers.
