About the Role
Oversees daily field operations to repair and maintain commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems for restaurants and retail environments. Ensures high-quality workmanship, efficient scheduling, strong communication, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex refrigeration and HVAC diagnostics and repairs.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting on walk-ins, reach-ins, grab-and-go coolers, prep tables, ice machines, RTUs, make-up air units, and hot-side restaurant equipment.
- Verify the accuracy and quality of repairs before job completion.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, EPA, CARB, manufacturer standards, and company policy.
- Install new equipment, replacements, and system upgrades.
- Ensure timely documentation, accurate reporting, and proper record-keeping.
- Support, develop, and ensure the execution of preventative maintenance programs.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and third-party trades.
- Oversee inventory levels of common parts, consumables, and specialty tools.
- Maintain all tools and equipment, including cleaning and organizing storage areas.
- Prioritize guests (internal and external) as the focus and number one priority.
- Maintain strong relationships with restaurant team members, managers, airport, airlines, and other airport stakeholders.
- Communicate repair status, timelines, and issues clearly and professionally.
- Provide transparency on delays, parts availability, and cost-impacting factors.
- Participate in meetings, evaluations, and audits, providing recommendations.
- Enforce safety policies, PPE requirements, lock-out/tag-out, and EPA refrigerant handling.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, building codes, and environmental regulations.
- Follow security guidelines for outside repair company personnel, including badge checks and escorting non-badged personnel.
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of commercial HVAC/R repair experience, preferably in a restaurant or food service environment.
- Strong expertise with commercial walk-in coolers/freezers, reach-in and low-boy units, refrigerated prep tables, ice machines, RTUs, split systems, make-up air units, PM programs, and diagnostic procedures.
- Proficient in brazing, leak detection, vacuuming, recovery, charging, system diagnostics, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational skills for scheduling, prioritizing work, multi-tasking, and balancing multiple demands.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, supportive, and solution-oriented under pressure.
- Ability to stand and work in confined spaces for long periods.
- Ability to walk for extended periods to visit multiple unit properties.
- Valid State Driver’s License required.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends.
- Hot side equipment repair experience (ovens, fryers, grills, coffee equipment).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Manufacturer-specific training is a plus.
- High school diploma preferred.
