About the Role
AFP is seeking a Fire Alarm Designer to coordinate onsite surveys, prepare fire alarm drawings using AutoCAD, and manage projects from inception to completion. This role involves submitting drawings, tracking review processes, and coordinating technical documents with other disciplines. The designer will also assist field personnel and the sales department with system configuration, code applications, and project estimating, while maintaining project documentation.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate onsite surveys with operations team.
- Prepare fire alarm drawings using AutoCAD based on site surveys and architectural prints.
- Calculate, design, and coordinate a project from beginning to end.
- Submit drawings and track review processes with multiple AHJ's.
- Coordinate technical documents with other disciplines/contractors.
- Modify and/or create processes to ensure consistent production and document control.
- Assist superintendents and field personnel on system and code applications.
- Assist sales department with system configuration, take-offs, specification review, and code applications for estimating projects.
- Maintain project drawing files and records.
- Participate in design turnover and bid review meetings.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Construction experience is a plus.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Fire Alarm system design and Auto CAD.
- APS State of TX or NICET III preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
- 90% office setting, including sitting, some bending, some lifting, walking and viewing.
- 10% with flexibility for site visits and company events.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
