About the Role
Family Service League is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker for their large shelter in Brentwood. This role is responsible for the interior and exterior maintenance of property and grounds, ensuring compliance with Suffolk County regulations, and performing repairs on all facility equipment and structures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare rooms for occupancy, including hanging sheet rock, spackle, painting, and routine maintenance.
- Perform electrical and structural repairs or installations.
- Perform mid-level plumbing duties: snake lines, remove and install toilets, and repair leaking pipes.
- Conduct regularly scheduled safety checks and perform or schedule necessary repairs.
- Maintain the interior of the property through routine tasks like replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging drains, and drywall repair and painting.
- Notify Property Manager timely of the need for repairs or replacement of equipment or furniture.
- Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
- Maintain the exterior of the property by performing tasks such as blowing leaves, picking up trash, sweeping, trimming, weeding, and removing snow and ice.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience performing building maintenance and repairs is required.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical, plumbing, spackle and paint, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, and groundskeeping.
- Knowledge of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services requirements is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Outlook is required.
- Knowledge of Facilities Management software preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- OSHA training or certification strongly preferred.
- Valid, clean, New York State Driver’s License required.
- Ability to pick up and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to work overhead and on a ladder for sustained periods.
- Ability to bend and crouch to install flooring or seal tubs and toilets.
- Ability to shovel snow from walkways.
- Ability to go up and down stairs.
