About the Role

This position will assist with the efficient and effective delivery of the Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) program as part of a leadership team, providing leadership to a multi-disciplinary VPD team responsible for community-based interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input and assistance with schedules, workload distribution, and assignments, communicating these to the team and arranging coverage.
  • Oversee and support team members' work and troubleshoot daily operational problems.
  • Provide coaching, development, and mentoring to the team, including clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and orientation of new staff.
  • Manage performance and conduct annual evaluations for direct reports.
  • Respond to public complaints and resolve related performance issues.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement, seek solutions, and make recommendations.
  • Maintain up-to-date team protocols, medical directives, and processes, assessing and communicating necessary changes.
  • Be available to frontline staff for questions and direction during their workday.
  • Support team members with complex clinical/client interactions, providing guidance based on regulatory standards.
  • Support the planning and implementation of staff continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ensure staff operate in accordance with relevant legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and reports.
  • Identify and handle program-related issues and escalations, recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Implement effective communication and collaboration strategies with team members, leadership, and other staff.
  • Support the Manager, VPD in fiscal resource management, budget oversight, and reporting.
  • Provide back-up coverage for other leaders on the team.
  • Work flexible hours, including being on-call within a rotation.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is required.
  • Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO) is required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in public health, including at least one year in a leadership role.
  • Familiarity with relevant Regulations and Guidelines, Ontario Public Health Standards, legislation, and protocols.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Expertise in working with diverse populations and demonstrated understanding of addressing health inequities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a safe work environment.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent computer skills in documentation and MS Office.
  • Proficiency with public health information systems and Panorama.
  • Knowledge of the principles of health equity and ability to advance public health priorities with diverse individuals/communities.
  • Excellent computer skills, with emphasis on MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Ability to communicate in French or other languages is an asset.
  • Intention to complete a graduate degree is an asset.
