About the Role

As a Management Services Organization (MSO), Spire provides the infrastructure for administrative operations that allows practices to operate at their highest level, so doctors can focus their efforts on what matters most – patient care.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and positions patients for MRI of various parts of the body.
- Positions patients and sets up equipment (coils, monitoring devices, etc.) to provide the best demonstration of the body part under study.
- Is able to lift and position all coils.
- Screens patients and personnel for any ferrous metal implants or other objects.
- Ensures that no patient/visitor/healthcare worker enters the scan room with ferromagnetic objects or contraindicated implants.
- Selects appropriate pulse sequences from the monitoring console for scan procedures based on established protocols.
- Accurately records all pulse sequences implemented for the exam.
- May recommend changes in protocol or additional instructions to provide further diagnostic information.
- Evaluates scanning procedure results for quality and completeness.
- Manipulates images using the console keyboard and mouse for physician review.
- Selects all image display options using the terminal.
- Recognizes and rectifies operational problems.
- Photographs images using a multi-format laser camera and displays them on a monitor.
- Processes films and checks images for quality control (windowing for contrast, proper display format and text).
- Sends images to the PACS system, evaluates the exam for completeness, and verifies the exam in a timely manner.
- Develops a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities.
- Performs daily Quality Assurance tests on equipment.
- Monitors proper level of cryogens to ensure magnet integrity.
- Informs MRI Supervisor or Office Manager and appropriate service personnel of system problems and documents accurately.
- Seeks advice from appropriate resources when unsure of protocol or policy.
- Is responsive to patients’ physical and psychological needs.
- Informs patients of delays.
- Starts an intravenous line on patients requiring IV contrast, considering patient’s pain tolerance, anxieties, and fears.
- Monitors patients for contrast reactions and reports problems promptly to a radiologist, the code team, or both.
- Routinely practices room hygiene.
- Practices patient care with universal precautions.
- Is able to move patients to or from a wheelchair with assistance.
- Performs other duties/projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of approved school of radiology required (two year course).
- Valid X-Ray/MRI Technician license and ARRT registered.
- Minimum one year experience as an MRI Tech preferred.
- Orthopedic and/or neurological experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
