About the Role
The Outage Supervisor will provide technical, administrative, and supervisory support to operations on maintenance and capital projects. This role is responsible for developing the scope of mechanical work for hydro turbine rehabilitation, and implementing construction project plans. The work involves reverse engineering of legacy equipment, oversight of design and calculations for replacement equipment, and knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques. This role requires partnering with regional Operations Supervisors and working collaboratively within a team. Travel throughout New York (up to 50% offsite travel) will be required.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate unit outage planning with the field Supervisor, using energy production forecasting.
- Establish and plan projects and project schedules.
- Prepare specifications and fabrication sketches for replacement parts.
- Troubleshoot and perform forensic failure analysis to avoid repeated failures.
- Develop preventive maintenance procedures.
- Support field supervisors for emergency repairs, including temporarily assuming their role when required.
- Maintain project progress information and reports, schedules, and accountabilities.
- Manage project safety, scope, cost, schedule, and milestones using appropriate tools.
- Strive for continuous improvement of unit availability, forced outage rates, and generation.
- Develop and maintain a condition monitoring program for critical equipment.
- Coordinate with purchasing to procure materials and equipment.
- Be "On Call" to respond to emergencies.
- Support training development in Litmos.
- Perform other duties as specified by Sr. Operations Manager.
Requirements
- Familiarity with hydro turbine or centrifugal pump design considerations.
- A practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative and solution-focused approach to issues.
- Strong problem-solving skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong ability to be self-directed regarding learning and discovery.
- Competent on conventional machine tools and knowledge of CNC machines.
- Experienced with machine shop practices and equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project).
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Programs (IFS), document management (Share Point), and Learning Management Systems (Litmos) is preferred.
- Associate Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Project management or team lead experience (3 years preferred).
- Experience/exposure in the power generation field; hydro specific experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated safe work habits and familiarity with OSHA standards.
- Familiarity with rigging, craning, confined space, work at height, and electrical best practices.
