About the Role
Five Star Bank’s Summer Associate Program develops future financial services professionals to advance our vision of being an independent, high-performing community bank. As a Mortgage Summer Associate, you will support the Mortgage team by assisting with loan processing, document review, customer service, and compliance activities, while also contributing to sales initiatives through lead generation, client outreach, and relationship-building. This internship offers hands-on experience across the mortgage lending lifecycle within a community banking environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with mortgage loan application processing, including document collection and verification.
- Generate mortgage leads through client outreach, community engagement, and referral follow-ups, while supporting the sales team in promoting loan products and cultivating relationships with prospective borrowers.
- Support the review of loan files to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Help coordinate communication between borrowers, loan officers, and underwriting teams.
- Assist in preparing loan disclosures and closing documentation.
- Contribute to pipeline management and tracking of loan status updates.
- Participate in quality control and audit activities related to mortgage lending.
- Support special projects aimed at improving mortgage operations and customer experience.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, with a junior-level standing or higher preferred.
- Available to work a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week for the duration of the program starting in June.
- Occasional travel within corporate footprint (Buffalo and Rochester) will be required.
- At least 1 year in one or more club(s), volunteerism efforts, or other activities outside of the classroom.
- Eagerness to learn and build skills in mortgage sales, client relationship management, business development, and real estate financing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and attention to detail.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal customers, associates, and stakeholders.
