About the Role
Daily Bread Food Bank is seeking a motivated, professional, and energetic DZ Driver to join their Operations team. This role is crucial for representing Daily Bread in the community, ensuring the safe and respectful transportation of food items, and engaging with member agencies and donors. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to customer service, safety, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those facing hunger and poverty.
Responsibilities
- Drive company vehicles with a focus on road safety and accident prevention.
- Deliver pallets of food to member agencies daily.
- Pick up pallet or donation bins/boxes of food donations from various locations.
- Load empty pallets, milk crates, and bread trays and return them to the Daily Bread warehouse.
- Maintain customer service excellence during delivery and pickup duties, operating in a safety-focused, courteous, and professional manner.
- Promote and maintain good customer relations.
- Share customer/agency feedback with the Daily Bread team, including complaints, requests, returns, performance, and potential opportunities.
- Practice safe loading/unloading/lifting of product, considering weight restrictions and using lifting devices.
- Perform daily vehicle/equipment circle check safety inspections, documenting and reporting according to regulations.
- Record all stops using a handheld smartphone and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Ensure driver's license is up to date and report all infractions, tickets, and accidents.
- Participate in special events both on-site and off-site.
- Perform Warehouse Support responsibilities when not engaged in primary duties.
- Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned, such as organizing the dock, cleaning out the truck, and dump runs.
- Promote a safe and healthy workplace, ensuring adherence to legislation and policy.
- Participate in health and safety information sessions.
- Use or wear provided equipment, protective devices, or clothing.
- Meet the requirements of s. 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Work closely with the Operations team to ensure inbound and outbound order accuracy.
Requirements
- Valid AZ/DZ driver's license with a minimum of 3 years of continuous AZ/DZ truck driving experience and a clean abstract.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with the GTA and surrounding area for efficient delivery and pick-up.
- Must display offensive and defensive driving practices.
- Must be self-motivated with strong conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Open to feedback and takes pride in actioning feedback.
- Organized with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrates enjoyment of driving and is safety-minded.
- Must be able to use a smartphone for delivery applications and email.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and move skids with a manual/electric pump truck.
- Willingness to occasionally work a flexible schedule.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to wear safety equipment.
- Must be able to assist with off-site collection of food at trade shows and other special events.
- Must be able to work extra hours when deemed necessary.
- Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, and lift.
- Must be able to operate manual and powered pump trucks.
- Must be able to go into drive-in fridge and freezer for short periods.
