About the Role

Partner with the Global VP of People to lead the UK team, supporting over 270 people and contributing to a global team of over 600. This high-impact role involves working closely with Co-Founders, the Senior Leadership Team, and the wider People function to ensure the organization has the necessary people, leadership, structure, and processes for future growth. The core mission is to build an organization where great people can do great work, managers effectively lead, and People practices scale with the business.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a player-coach, assuming day-to-day line management for a team of 5 individuals across the US and UK.
  • Coach leaders and managers on setting clear expectations, giving feedback, navigating underperformance, and handling difficult conversations.
  • Develop and refine performance, talent, and progression strategies to recognize, develop, and retain high-performing employees.
  • Enhance the hiring process to efficiently and consistently identify great talent in an evolving market.
  • Lead on complex employee matters including complaints, grievances, investigations, and performance issues, ensuring lessons learned improve policies and processes.
  • Build meaningful People metrics, identify trends, and use data to understand organizational effectiveness and risks.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated record of driving exceptional results in People domains or subdomains, likely within a high-growth startup or performance-obsessed organization.
  • Ability to spot necessary changes, build solutions, and implement them.
  • Systems-level thinking and ability to drive clarity from ambiguity.
  • Resilience for handling complex People-related challenges.
  • Passion for the company's mission to improve education staffing.
  • Interest in both the company's business and the People domain.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and drive the direction of the business.
