About the Role

We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator, seeking a portfolio manager with excellent credit analysis, communication, and problem-solving skills to join our finance team. This role focuses on the financial sustainability and regulatory compliance of tour operators under the ATOL consumer protection scheme, with potential involvement in overseeing UK airlines and space industry companies. You will help shape our regulatory approach in evolving UK travel and aviation markets.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor a portfolio of companies through qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Advise the credit committee and senior management on company financial sustainability.
  • Outline key issues and concerns, making recommendations for licensing conditions.
  • Conduct regular reviews, monitor market trends, and identify early licensing actions.
  • Lead complex cases, including companies in financial distress or with complex structural changes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior management of license holders.
  • Collaborate with regulatory policy experts to mitigate non-compliance issues.
  • Support the management team and undertake ad-hoc projects.
  • Coach and develop junior team members.
  • Develop a solid understanding of policy and regulatory frameworks affecting UK airlines and travel industries.
  • Identify and recommend improvements for policies, processes, and practices.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in credit risk management and/or a financial qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CFA or equivalent) or other relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting and economics; corporate finance; debt and equity financing; corporate restructuring; or strategic analysis is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively, maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Good data and modelling skills, including the ability to synthesize large datasets and develop or interrogate financial models.
  • Right to work in the UK for security vetting.
