About the Role
Springer Nature Journals group aims to support researchers in communicating and advancing discovery for a better world by providing a trusted environment for sharing discoveries, data, and research stories. This role offers an opening to join the Springer Journals publishing team, working on oncology journals within one of the world's leading global scientific and medical publishers.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Society contacts, Editorial Board Members, and other stakeholders.
- Organize and host Editorial Board meetings.
- Develop, expand, and refresh Editorial Boards, identifying recruitment needs and supporting the appointment of high-quality and diverse Editorial Board members.
- Resolve queries and correspond with Editors by email, phone, and in person, ensuring timely responses and escalation when required.
- Build excellent relationships and foster team working within the immediate team and other departments.
- Prioritize journals for development and set and execute strategic journal plans with line manager support.
- Develop knowledge of the fields the portfolio operates within to identify important journals, features, and hot topics.
- Actively identify journal development opportunities.
- Ensure appropriate representation in indexing services and work to ensure journals are performing at the required level for acceptance by selective services.
- Monitor the open access levels of journals and implement a strategy to support open access development.
- Monitor peer review data to optimize manuscript flow.
- Pre-empt issues and work with the Editorial Office and internal/external Editors to resolve any delays.
- Advise on ethical queries and ensure journal compliance with COPE Guidelines.
- Maintain accurate journal records and oversee key journal administration activities, including editor and society contract renewals, honoraria payments, and ensuring all journal information is kept up to date.
- Represent the company at scientific conferences when required.
Requirements
- Educated to bachelor’s degree level.
- Interest and understanding of publishing business.

- Prior experience working in a similar publishing role (journals or books) is desirable.
- Willing to travel occasionally and represent Springer Nature at external events is desirable.
- An interest in oncology and related disciplines is desirable.
