About the Role

HB Public Law is seeking a Lawyer or Senior Lawyer for their Criminal Litigation and Regulatory Team. This role offers the chance to manage a varied caseload across four local authorities, impacting local communities. Applications are welcomed from newly qualified lawyers eager to learn and experienced litigators.

Responsibilities

Manage own caseload and provide practical, solution-focused advice on criminal litigation matters.
Advise on fraud, fly-tipping, licensing, drafting summonses, planning enforcement, environmental crime, trading standards, and regulatory prosecutions.
Work closely with officers and senior managers across client authorities.
Undertake advocacy.
Support and mentor junior colleagues (depending on experience).
Contribute to training initiatives (depending on experience).
Help develop best practice across the team (depending on experience).
Run local authority prosecution cases and other regulatory work.
Advise on and prosecute regulatory and fraud offences, including appeals and judicial review.
Advise on licensing matters, including advising elected members, defending statutory appeals, and advising on enforcement.
Provide advice to tackle anti-social behaviour and community tensions.
Provide policy advice on regulatory matters.
Undertake other regulatory litigation work, including court and tribunal advocacy.
Be a team player and forge excellent working relationships with colleagues and clients.

Requirements

Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) with litigation practising rights, or soon to qualify.
Experienced in any type of litigation work (e.g., Criminal, Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, Licensing, Regulatory, etc.).
Able to provide practical, proportionate, and risk-based legal advice.
Comfortable managing own caseload and prioritizing competing demands.
Strong communicator with excellent client care skills.
Motivated, collaborative, and committed to delivering high-quality legal services.
Willingness to learn and develop.
Positive attitude to achieve success.
