About the Role

C&S Companies is seeking a Project Controller to manage project accounting functions for its construction business. This role involves overseeing accounts receivable, invoicing, and the work-in-progress (WIP) job schedule, while also assisting with monthly financial statements. The position reports to the Director of Accounting & Finance and collaborates with construction department leaders.

Responsibilities

Oversee accounts receivable, invoicing, and preparation of the monthly WIP report, including reconciliations.
Collaborate with construction teams to ensure accuracy in projects, contract prices, estimated costs to complete, and job costing.
Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax and compliance.
Work with the corporate accounting team to ensure job cost coding accuracy and proper cut-off for month-end reporting.
Assist in accumulating and consolidating financial data for accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
Work with external auditors by providing necessary year-end documents.
Assess current accounting operations, recommend improvements, and implement new processes.
Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases.
Provide management with vital decision-making information.
Develop and monitor business performance metrics.
Manage, train, and retain skilled accounting staff.
Direct project accounting functions, policies, procedures, and practices.
Ensure accounting procedures comply with company, legal, and GAAP standards.
Utilize safe work practices in accordance with federal, state, local, and company standards.
Communicate incidents, accidents, near misses, potential hazards, and unsafe working conditions to a supervisor or the Health and Safety Department.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business management.
5-8 years of relevant experience in the construction field.
Strong working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.
Experience with WIP reports, percentage of completion, and revenue recognition.
Experience with construction ERP systems.
Strong Excel skills.
Ability to effectively manage staff with varied experience and job responsibilities.
Must be a team player, detail-oriented, and able to multitask with daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
Communication skills for dealing with internal and external customers.
