About the Role
Transports children while ensuring their safety, establishing routes and procedures with the Center Director, maintaining the vehicle, and upholding a safe driving record. This is a Per Diem / As-Needed position with variable hours based on program needs.
Responsibilities
- Ensures each child is buckled in before starting the vehicle and understands the need to keep seatbelts fastened.
- Wears seatbelt at all times while operating the vehicle.
- Operates the vehicle in accordance with any license restrictions.
- Abides by traffic laws and drives defensively, ensuring compliance with company policies and road safety regulations.
- Maintains an accurate count and roster of children transported and confirms no children are left behind after each trip.
- Checks for any items left in the vehicle after each trip.
- Stops the van in a safe location to resolve any necessary discipline issues.
- Physically assists children boarding and leaving the vehicle, ensuring safety before operation.
- Avoids backing up the vehicle whenever possible.
- Does not operate the van when taking impairing medication and notifies the Center Director.
- Adheres to strict company policy regarding drug and alcohol use while operating the vehicle.
- Sets a positive example for children through appropriate language and social skills.
- Does not eat, drink, smoke, or use a cell phone while driving.
- Maintains awareness of vehicle maintenance needs and coordinates with the Director for service and repairs.
- Adapts to schedule changes as required.
Requirements
- Must possess a New York State driver's license.
- Must have a CDL with School Bus Endorsement.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have no accidents or citations on driving record.
- PPD Test Required prior to start date (Results no more than 1 year old).
