About the Role
The Disciplinary and Grievance Panel (D&G panel) is an independent body supporting British Rowing in handling grievance and disciplinary matters fairly and equitably according to its regulations. The Panel reports to the Board of British Rowing and comprises a minimum of eight members with diverse skills. Knowledge of sports or rowing is not essential, and membership is a voluntary role with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
Responsibilities
- Resolve grievances, appeals, and other disciplinary matters referred to the Panel.
- Act as an Appeals Board for non-selection for International or Olympic representation.
- Make recommendations to the Board via the CEO for effective and equitable handling of disciplinary and grievance matters.
- Provide assistance and/or guidance to British Rowing members, clubs, competitions, and regions regarding regulations.
Requirements
- Experienced in judicial matters and procedures (e.g., barristers, lawyers, solicitors, Justices of the Peace with a minimum of five years experience).
- Experience in disciplinary or grievance work is advantageous.
- Expected to attend Panel meetings, typically twice a year (generally held online).
- May be required to act as a member of a Panel to review a particular matter, which could be held in London, a region, or online.
- Such Panels normally sit for one day to hear evidence or review written submissions.
- Expected to maintain high standards, compliance with recognised good practice guidelines, and comply with relevant requirements of British Rowing.
- Will be asked to undergo training from time to time.
- Applications should address the candidate’s interest in the role, sporting governance or the sport of rowing and the criteria outlined above.
