About the Role

British Rowing (BR) is seeking experienced, independent individuals to join its Safeguarding Panels. These panels address safeguarding concerns and disciplinary matters within the sport. While this recruitment focuses on the Safeguarding Panel, qualified individuals may also serve on other panels.

Responsibilities

Sit on cases arising within rowing, including those based on behaviors outside of rowing related to safeguarding and transferable risk.
Chair panels, requiring legal qualification.
Produce a Written Judgment upon case conclusion.
Provide availability for four to six panels per year.
Sit on cases on an ad hoc basis, requiring flexibility.
Undergo training as required.
Conduct panel hearings online.

Requirements

A nationally recognized professional qualification requiring expertise and skills in safeguarding children or adults at risk, and/or management of offenders.
A minimum of five years’ experience working in a safeguarding role.
Recent experience sitting on safeguarding tribunals, panels, or case management groups with powers to decide on individual suitability to work with vulnerable populations.
Recent experience undertaking safeguarding risk assessments of individuals' suitability to work with vulnerable populations.
Basic knowledge of employment law and relevant legislation concerning equality, disability discrimination, human rights law, and safeguarding.
Understanding of the impact of abusive or discriminatory behavior on children and young people, including additional vulnerabilities.
Understanding of behavior indicative of 'grooming' with the intention to abuse or exploit.
Understanding of the support required for vulnerable witnesses and those accused of unsafe practice.
Ability to work alongside other professionals.
Ability to assess and analyze various forms of evidence.
Knowledge of best practices in conducting disciplinary proceedings, particularly within sports governing bodies.
Expressed commitment to complete a minimum of four hours of relevant continued professional development training each year.
Address interest in the role, sporting governance, or rowing in application.
