About the Role

Mirvac is seeking a Manager, Taxation to join their Funds Management team in Sydney. This role is instrumental in delivering taxation functions including compliance, reporting, and forecasting for various managed funds, entities, and joint ventures. The position reports to the Financial Controller (Funds Management) with a dotted line to the Director, Taxation, and will oversee a broad range of technical tax matters.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all tax compliance processes on an end-to-end basis to facilitate timely lodgement and completion of all relevant tasks, including internal and external reviews.
  • Prepare and complete trust distribution calculations, including determination of distribution tax components and withholding tax obligations for various entities and managed funds.
  • Prepare and complete trustee distribution resolutions and distribution statements/Fund payment notices/Annual tax statements to investors.
  • Prepare and lodge tax returns and associated schedules, liaising with relevant stakeholders for review and signoff.
  • Monitor, update, and reconcile tax fixed asset registers, including follow-up of QS reports and other trade breakdown information.
  • Oversee the maintenance of tax cost base records for assets and units and monitor tax cost base positions.
  • Prepare Trust taxable earnings projections and scenario calculations, including taxable earnings and capital gains tax impacts.
  • Support strategic tax planning and modelling to review outcomes.
  • Maintain tax technical knowledge, including identifying, advising on, and implementing relevant matters for Funds Management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years’ taxation experience, including at least 3 years at Manager level.
  • Background may include experience within a mid-tier or Big 4 accounting firm, or commercial experience within an investment or funds-focused organisation.
  • Capability to manage the tax compliance function.
  • Ability to support and mentor junior staff.
  • Ability to prioritize and respect deadlines.
  • Demonstrated strong tax technical skills and the ability to clearly articulate tax concepts simply and clearly.
  • A broad understanding of the diverse range of tax imposts and legislative requirements that apply to trusts and associated compliance processes and administrative requirements.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to use and understand tax software packages (e.g., OneSource).
  • Ability to use financial ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi).
  • Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to proactively initiate consultation and escalation with internal and external stakeholders.
