About the Role

Join RVA's Finance team in Toronto as a Junior Accountant, supporting daily accounting operations, month-end close, and project financial administration within an engineering consulting environment. Gain exposure to project accounting, billing, and financial reporting while contributing to a collaborative, employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Process and code accounts payable invoices and employee expense claims.
  • Support accounts receivable activities including cash application and client invoicing.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and routine general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and other month-end and year-end close tasks under supervision.
  • Support project accounting activities, including tracking project costs, reviewing time and expenses, and assisting with billing preparations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions in line with internal controls.
  • Prepare basic financial reports and schedules as requested.
  • Support audit and review requests by gathering documentation.
  • Contribute to process improvements and ad-hoc projects that enhance efficiency and data quality within the finance function.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (college diploma or bachelor’s degree) or equivalent experience.
  • 0–3 + years of accounting experience (co-op, internship, or entry-level roles counted).
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • High attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a project-based environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively across teams and follow established procedures.
  • Alignment with RVA’s values and interest in contributing to an employee owned, best managed company culture.

Skills

  • Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data organization).
  • Familiarity with Deltek Vantagepoint software is an asset.
  • Interest in pursuing a CPA designation is an asset.
