About the Role
We are seeking an individual to establish and manage our governance, risk, and compliance functions as the company expands. This role involves understanding and monitoring security and business risks, fulfilling client and regulatory obligations, and demonstrating our commitment to security.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the risk register, including risk appetite, exceptions, and prioritization, ensuring its practical utility beyond mere compliance.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive register of compliance obligations from clients, regulators, and contracts, with clearly defined owners and review schedules.
- Lead certification and assurance initiatives, setting targets, defining scope, and preparing the company for readiness.
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Monitor risks and controls, providing clear reports to the leadership team on the current status.
- Oversee client security assurance, including managing the questionnaire process and developing a reusable assurance pack for clients.
- Manage third-party and vendor risk, including supplier tiering and determining appropriate due diligence levels.
- Contribute to shaping our approach to data protection, privacy, and the responsible use of AI tools.
- Support company-wide security awareness and training programs.
Requirements
- Experience in managing governance, risk, and compliance within a technology or regulated business environment.
- Proficiency in practical risk management, including registers, appetite, and exception handling.
- Familiarity with common assurance frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO standards, and the requirements for achieving them.
- Experience managing third-party and vendor risk.
- Comfortable handling client security questionnaires and assurance requests.
- Strong, organized communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and explain risk concepts clearly.
- Interest in AI tools, eagerness to use them for efficiency, and ability to guide others in their safe adoption.
- Background in financial services, InsurTech, or another regulated industry is preferred.
- Experience guiding a company through security certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is a plus.
- Exposure to data protection and privacy regulations, including GDPR, is beneficial.
- An interest in AI governance and risk management for new tools is desirable.
- Experience in a scale-up environment building such functions from the ground up is advantageous.
- Background checks, including criminal record checks, credit history review, employer references, and academic qualification verification, will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
