About the Role
This role is for an engineer who wants to work on challenging engineering problems and see their work integrated into unique, real-world products, particularly in defence and military applications where reliability and performance are critical. The engineer will be a key link between hardware and software teams, building high-performance systems from the ground up and being involved in all stages from decision-making to final outcome.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize embedded C, Python wrapping for build tooling firmware for microcontrollers.
- Design bare-metal and embedded firmware architectures.
- Build device drivers and HALs for sensors, memory, and communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, CAN).
- Collaborate directly with hardware engineers during prototype development and validation.
- Debug issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and JTAG/SWD tools.
- Investigate firmware bugs, field failures, and hardware-software integration issues.
- Improve firmware reliability, testing, and product performance.
Requirements
- Experience in embedded C, Python, and microcontrollers.
- Experience in bare-metal or embedded firmware development.
- Experience with device drivers and hardware interfaces.
- Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN.
- Experience with hardware debugging and board bring-up/prototyping.
- Experience with motor control, power electronics, RTOS, embedded Linux, or electronics manufacturing is highly regarded.
- Successful applicants must complete pre-employment screening, including a National Police Check, due to the nature of defence-related projects.
