About the Role
The ATOL Finance Licensing (ATF) function regulates approximately 1,600 ATOL holders, focusing on the financial sustainability of aviation and travel businesses. This role involves the financial supervision and regulatory compliance of the top 100 tour operators under the ATOL consumer protection scheme, with potential involvement in the financial oversight of UK-registered airlines and space industry companies. The position offers an opportunity to influence regulatory approaches in a dynamic market.
Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor a portfolio of up to 15 companies through qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Maintain oversight of compliance against legislative and policy frameworks.
- Advise the credit committee and senior management on company financial sustainability.
- Outline key issues and concerns, recommending appropriate licensing conditions based on risk profiles.
- Ensure travel businesses meet necessary legislative and regulatory requirements for consumer benefit.
- Conduct regular reviews, monitor market trends, and identify early licensing actions for deteriorating credits.
- Lead the handling of complex cases, including companies in financial distress or with complex structural changes.
- Build and maintain relationships with senior management of license holders.
- Collaborate with regulatory policy experts to identify and mitigate non-compliance issues and risks.
- Support the management team and undertake ad-hoc projects.
- Coach and develop junior team members.
- Develop a strong understanding of policies and regulatory frameworks affecting UK airlines and travel industries.
- Identify and recommend improvements for policies, processes, and practices.
Requirements
- Strong experience in credit risk management and/or a financial qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CFA or equivalent) or other relevant experience.
- Ability to manage workload effectively while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Good data and modelling skills, including the ability to synthesize large datasets and develop or interrogate financial models.
- Must have the right to work in the UK for security vetting.
- Must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance (BPSS).
