This is a highly personal and varied role supporting a busy Manhattan-based attorney, wife, and mother of two. The position involves providing accessibility support, assisting with family life, and handling practical tasks. The goal is to offer personal assistance without making it feel clinical, help with the children without being a nanny, and notice household needs without waiting to be asked. Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on accessibility assistance with activities of daily living, including transfers, positioning, and practical physical assistance.
- Assist with showering, dressing, grooming, and morning routines.
- Navigate outings, appointments, restaurants, family activities, and travel with the principal.
- Drive when needed, including rental cars during travel.
- Spend time with the children, engage them in activities, and help them with their routines.
- Prepare straightforward meals and snacks for the children and principal.
- Run errands and make returns.
- Order or pick up household and personal items.
- Keep track of small to-dos and research straightforward purchases or services.
- Organize belongings for weekends away or travel.
- Make simple reservations or arrangements.
- Manage miscellaneous personal projects and keep useful information organized.
- Help the principal stay ahead of practical details.
- Assist with everyday household reset tasks, including tidying common areas and cleaning up after meals or activities.
- Accompany the principal on short professional travel trips.
- Assist with logistics for weekends away from Manhattan and potential upstate travel.
Requirements
- Current/valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Must be entirely comfortable with the personal nature of the work.
- Candidates should not be squeamish, overly self-conscious, or inclined to treat physical assistance as awkward.
- Must be comfortable moving naturally between supporting the principal and helping the household function.
- Must be capable of establishing an easy rapport with children within healthy boundaries.
- Must be organized and resourceful.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
- Must understand privacy and professional boundaries.
- Must possess curiosity, stamina, and willingness to participate.
- Must have a sense of humor and not take oneself too seriously.
