About the Role
As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will manage the Structures/Transportation group, monitor project delivery, and ensure profitability while maintaining technical quality and professionalism. This role is within a 100% employee-owned organization that offers opportunities for advancement and career fulfillment.
Responsibilities
- Carry out structural engineering projects from concept design to detailed design, tender, and contract on-site supervision to completion.
- Ensure all design projects and reports are technically compliant, maintaining consistent quality and standard through regular design reviews and checks.
- Assist with project delivery management, including establishing client briefs, technical requirements, scope of works, cost plans, and defining deliverables.
- Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
- Implement Company Health and Safety, ensuring all designs respond to CDM regulations.
- Monitor and control project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets.
- Liaise with design teams to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant.
- Assist in monitoring project resource allocation.
- Be familiar with various Engineering Conditions of Contract.
- Maintain excellent client relationships to achieve high satisfaction and repeat business.
- Manage client expectations and promote a team approach.
- Pursue new business opportunities with existing and new clients, including preparing bids, proposals, and tender responses.
- Continuously adopt Civil and Structural engineering rules and regulations to protect the company's reputation and Professional Indemnity.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (IStructE or ICE preferred).
- Minimum 6 years' industry experience, ideally within a design consultancy.
- Expertise in leading and managing structural projects across aviation, highway & roads, rail/transit, and maritime sectors.
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., Tekla, Tedds, ETABS, Robot, Revit).
- Understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the roles of Designer and Principal Designer.
- Experience in undertaking the role of Designer and conversant with latest Health and Safety legislation.
- Experience supporting client bids and proposals, including financial planning and contractual assessments.
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project finances.
- Confident communicator with leadership ambition.
