About the Role

The Area Retail Manager is responsible for overseeing the year-round daily retail operation at Driftwood, creating a world-class shopping experience and providing exceptional customer service. This role also supports the DLC Corporate Retail Team with sourcing and buying swag and uniforms at Maverick and Austin Surf Club, and assists with property startup needs and new store openings at all Texas locations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory and purchasing using the open to buy system, Management One.
  • Execute and oversee purchases, including vendor communications, new account setup, logo instructions, purchase orders, and order tracking.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director of Retail on custom product development and ensure branding guidelines are adhered to for retail and marketing swag.
  • Monitor and manage the receipt flow of POs through On-Order maintenance and regular status updates.
  • Develop and maintain proper SOPs for processing invoices, inventory control, and AP reconciliation with the accounting department.
  • Attend required trade shows.
  • Assist with sourcing and purchasing of staff uniforms, event swag, and other miscellaneous projects.
  • Update and maintain vendor contact information.
  • Conduct monthly physical inventories for retail and quarterly for swag stock.
  • Maintain shrink parameters for retail and swag inventory.
  • Monitor the sell-through of best sellers and core items, and fill in as needed to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Receive retail merchandise in the POS system according to company standards for category and SKU assignment, pricing, and descriptions.
  • Ensure adherence to policies for employee purchases.
  • Reconcile receipts and outstanding issues with the accounting department.
  • Ensure the store is always pristinely merchandised with frequent floor rotations and new product placement according to Buying Plan timelines and special events.
  • Monitor and drive sales to meet monthly revenue budgets by building member relationships and maintaining knowledge of brands and current fashion trends.
  • Incorporate trunk shows, demo days, and other promotions to expand the retail offering and increase revenues.
  • Assist and service members and their guests with retail purchases, returns, and special orders, following proper procedures for all transactions.
  • Ensure company packaging standards are upheld and implement special touches like gift wrapping and thank-you notes.
  • Maintain a member database with retail-specific information for personal buying.
  • Develop and implement retail SOPs unique to the club operation and logistics using DLC standards.
  • Recruit and train retail staff.
  • Oversee scheduling of retail staff to optimize coverage.
  • Provide continuous product knowledge and customer service training.
  • Develop and implement staff incentives for quality work and meeting sales parameters.
  • Collaborate with the Retail Operations Manager to identify and develop Managers in Training.
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by the Director of Golf/Head Professional.
  • Assist golf and events staff with various projects and tournament preparation.
  • Plan, source, and purchase marketing swag for Maverick and Austin Surf Club.
  • Assist with uniforms, special orders, and other miscellaneous retail/swag requests for Maverick and Austin Surf Club.
  • Assist with new property and store opening startup tasks as requested.
  • Support marketing teams on site to manage inventory and purchasing for swag.
  • Facilitate swag purchases including vendor communications, new account setup, logo instructions, purchase orders, and order tracking.
  • Ensure swag purchases are within the provided budget.
  • Complete swag purchases and update all business model components accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director of Retail on custom product development and ensure all branding guidelines are adhered to for marketing swag.
  • Support implementation and compliance with companywide corporate initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain proper SOPs for receiving deliveries, inventory control, and AP reconciliation with accounting and marketing teams.
  • Oversee monthly physical inventories for swag.
  • Monitor inventory levels and fill in as needed to maintain proper stock of key items.
  • Work with the accounting department to reconcile all receipts and outstanding issues.

Requirements

  • One (1) to three (3) years of retail experience in a supervisory role.
  • Previous work experience in hospitality or customer service, preferably in a fast-paced, luxury service environment.
  • Experience with Point of Sales Systems (Jonas or TEI preferred).
  • Knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic knowledge of the golf/boutique/specialty retail industry as it relates to hospitality and private club retail environments.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail, quality, and service.
  • Ability to sell and create rapport with customers.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
